When is the last time you laughed with your teen? Got really silly? It’s the beginning of August and you’ve got a couple weeks left before bringing them to college. For soon to be seniors in high school they’ll be starting soon too. This is your reminder to have fun with your kids.
Teens love to get silly
Let me tell you about a Senior photoshoot I had before you start scrolling. This is how it started…
I told the girls we were going to the back of a deserted parking lot and play in shopping carts. I GOT THE EYE ROLL!
And then when the parents heard about it their reaction was, HOW DID YOU GET THEM TO DO THAT?!
It was actually really easy. I gave them the space and complete freedom to be silly. I had them racing each other in shopping carts, spinning around, chomping on bubble gum and coming to near crashes. How can you not have fun acting like a 5 year old?!
You see, here’s the thing. Even though they’re teens and you think they’re all grown up THEY’RE STILL KIDS! Given the opportunity to be a kid, they’re all in.
You have, 3 weeks left, ONE LAST YEAR, 3 years… until they’re out of the house. What are you going to do that’s fun WITH your kids?
Creating Connection
My kids are now out of high school and one even graduated from college. Still, I will literally do anything to hang out with my kids and laugh with them, to connect with them. We’re heading down to the beach soon and my son loves to surf. Guess who’s going to be right there next to him falling and falling again? ME! He’ll probably be doing more laughing than me, but that’s ok! It’s all about connection and joy with me.
Parents, you have homework
Here’s your homework, NO EYEROLLS! Go make a month full of memories, connecting and laughing with your kids. It’s not just about getting into college, going to college…whatever stage you’re at, go get silly with them.
Then I want you to share your FAVORITE MOMENTS from the summer.
We’re all in this together. Leave a comment below.
