Why I don't do "normal" senior pictures

Why I don’t do “normal” senior pictures. I know that’s an odd statement but “not normal” is probably best understood by going through my Gallery and Instagram. They don’t scream “portrait” or the dreaded senior pictures. You know, looking like a deer caught in headlights, very stiff, fake smile…you get it.

This is Part II that I mentioned in the original post about Darlena’s senior photoshoot. I pulled this set (images below) from Darlena’s senior photoshoot to try and put into words as to how and why I love creating a senior portrait experience.

Creating a Mood

It was midway into Darlena’s photoshoot. I think this was outfit #3 and it was HOT! I also instinctively know how far outside someone’s comfort zone I can go. Darlena’s was broad for a number of reasons, but again, I have a very good sense of this. The light was perfect, she had a beautiful dress meant for the location I had in mind AND did I mention it was hot? LOL! Off to the island we went.

Location

When I say island, I mean crossing a footbridge, walking through some woods, gingerly splashing into the rocky bottomed lake while scaring the ducks away. Darlena and my assistant Gina know me well enough to know that it’s always an adventure and it’s ALWAYS worth it! Once we were positioned in the water with the most beautiful light we got some amazing shots and cooled off:)

Experience

It took extra time and a lot of effort but I don’t watch the clock and I will put in any amount of effort to create an experience your teen will remember forever. The photos of Darlena are beautiful from every location and outfit. This was one of those photoshoots that lent itself to this particular location adding to an already memorable experience.

The senior yearbook pictures will NEVER give your senior an experience like this. And without experiences attached to an image what would make it memorable? Nothing.
