What to wear for winter senior pictures is usually the first thing seniors think about. And it’s the most asked question as soon as a date is scheduled for senior photos. It doesn’t matter what time of the year or season it is. Most people think winter is the most difficult time of year to dress for photos. I have a few notes below that may change your mind.
Dress in Layers
Dressing in layers adds visual interest. When you’re having a winter senior photoshoot it makes it that much easier to do this. When I say layers I don’t mean piling on sweater after sweater. It means, different weights and textures combined to create a cohesive look. How about this? A lacy corset under a henley thermal tee with a pretty button down and a cardigan over it. Then, if you still need another layer throw on a jacket. On the bottom you’ll throw on a pair of tights and boots. Have you received my 3 tips to Styling an Outfit?
Accessorize for warmth
Beanies, pom hats, scarves and even a beautiful plaid throw to wrap around you give all the winter vibes and looks super cute. Take a look at these images. There are so many fun hats you can wear and no it will not flatten your hair. We have ways of dealing with that and also sequence each set of clothes to account for that. I love scarves because not only do they keep you warm but it’s something we play with as a prop, see below.
This is the time of year for props
How about wrapping your hands around a cup of hot chocolate? If it’s snowy bring a sled or we’ll play in the snow. And then there are hand warmers. While it may not be considered a prop, they do help with staying comfortable.
A Styling Call to put it all together Stylishly
Did you know that when you book a photoshoot with me a styling consultation is included? We get on a call and go through your closet. We put together outfits and I’ll recommend additions if needed. All of the above is good information to have but know that we’re going to do this together so you have no stress.
