Senior pictures that make you comfortable seems like an oxymoron. Most people’s first response to having their picture taken is, no thank you, not for me. Being in front of a camera can be uncomfortable. You’re in the spotlight and that’s not always where people want to be. Today I’m turning the spotlight on senior class of 2023, Ava.
Finding out about YOU
I was forewarned by Ava’s mom (N.) that Ava was more or less going along for the sake of keeping the peace. Oh! And she had nothing to wear but would love to take Ava shopping (if only…) and her favorite “outfit” was a softball uniform. Forewarned I was!
Styling for YOU
On the styling call Ava seemed all in for both the photoshoot and styling. She kept pulling outfits out of her closet and I quietly laughed to myself. Little did I know she and her mom had already pre-shopped for her senior pictures. BUT! I still wanted to include her softball uniform and/or jacket. It’s a huge part of Ava’s personality and that’s what a senior photoshoot with me is all about.
Building in the Comfort Factor
I’ve photographed hundreds of seniors over the past 9 years. I innately know the comfort level someone has when we first get started. Ava was uncomfortable. We stopped, took a deep breath, relaxed and eased back in. Then we started to move which also helps. And then…she put her softball jacket on.
Just like magic
I knew this would be the point when everything going through Ava’s mind would melt. And it did. I knew by the look in her eyes. It was blazing hot and she was cozying up in her wool varsity jacket. I asked her if she wanted to take a break and take the jacket off. She said
no, I’m good, I’m really comfortable.
And that was that! The rest of the photoshoot was pure magic. We laughed. A lot! And I might even say she was a little sad when it came to the end of her senior photoshoot. Senior pictures that make you comfortable are possible. You need to find a photographer who can do that for you.
Mom’s reaction
Did Ava’s mom get the photos she was craving of her daughter?…
Paige was a pleasure to work with. She made the process really fun and easy and not only that, the pictures she took were stunning.
