I believe imperfection shows more personality. Anyone who’s a perfectionist is probably already off this read but that’s ok. If you’re still reading through and a complete perfectionist this is how I feel about perfection and how it relates to senior pictures and teen portraits.

I was going through past posts and if you’ve been with me for any length of time you know that imperfection is a love of mine. LOL!! I wanted to repost this because it makes me laugh, especially now with my son home from school.

Messy bedrooms

Kids messy rooms really have never been at the top of my priority list. Meaning that closing the door and leaving it, is one less battle to pick. 

But you know what? I’ve recently realized there’s a far more significant reason why I don’t mind the messiness. Here’s what happened…

Clean-up

I spent the day cleaning my son’s room. I’m talking deep cleaning…hours on end picking up, cleaning up. He’s back at college. I was dragging my feet but it was time to get in there.

Do you know why I was procrastinating? I didn’t… until I was in this sparkling, neat and tidy  room. I’d say it was pretty close to perfect. Wait, did I really say that!

Void of Personality

I looked around and realized I was in someone else’s room! It felt completely void of him.

I’ve always been one to say perfection is not my thing. And it really is NOT. Give me messy, imperfection because that is where, I believe, personality shines through. That is why, during a photoshoot, if a teen’s hair is blowing in her face but she has this captivating look on her face I will take that shot over any “perfect” looking image. Emotion and personality will win out over perfection every time.

Afterward

The P.S. to this is, that after 5 years of going to school in Michigan and living there during the summers my son is home. HOME!! I’m ecstatic because I really didn’t think he’d be back in New Jersey. He’s got a great job and will be looking for an apartment in the fall. Has he matured? Yes. Has he gotten cleaner, tidier? NOOOOO! But you know what? I’ve learned how to close the door and appreciate the fact that his room SCREEEEEAMMMS personality:D
