My secret to a successful photoshoot is far simpler than I’ll bet you’re thinking. There are a lot of ingredients that go into creating an extraordinary photoshoot but I have one non-negotiable. This was written during the heart of Covid but “my secret” hasn’t changed one bit.
THE ONE SECRET
I love what I do…if you’ve been following me for years I think you know that by now:D This year has been challenging for obvious reasons. Every single one of us has our good days and bad (or worst) days during the best of years, but this year… I was speaking with a bunch of entrepreneurs the other day discussing the topic of what our fourth quarter goals are. Everyone had numbers and hard-set tangibles to talk about. When it came time for me to speak here’s what I said…
Have fun. Continue tapping into how much I love what I do and everything else will fall into place.
I’m not kidding you. That’s been my goal since day one and especially this year. Again, there are days that are really hard to do but …
when I’m having fun and feel like I’m giving joy to someone else, particularly teen girls who are in so much need of that right now…well it makes everything feel better.
This was a for fun shoot below. I photographed Rachel when she was a freshman and now she’s a senior. Styling is another part of what I do, that I really love, so Rachel agreed to “play dress-up” for the day. We had a spectacular day, I know Rachel and it was the perfect shoot for both of us. WE HAD FUN!
That’s it. That’s my secret to a successful photoshoot.
POSTSCRIPT
You may or may not have noticed I’ve added an EDITORIAL category to the blog. This shoot started me thinking about creating editorial shoots. A year later, I did just that and was published. I’ll link to the post about that when I’ve written it!:D It’s still about doing what makes me happy. Editorial shoots make me happy. This may be leading to a special type of shoot I’ll be offering soon. Would you be interested in that? Leave a comment below.
